Congratulations to the 2016 Collaborative Working Group Grantees!
SF B2C is excited to provide grants to six Collaborative Working Groups including two new groups that just launched this year! Collaborative Working Groups (CWGs) are groups of cross-sector stakeholders that have come together to plan and execute collective actions aligned with the shared vision of the Santa Fe Birth to Career Collaboration and the Mayor’s Children, Youth and Families Community Cabinet to improve birth to career outcomes for Santa Fe children, youth and families.

The Early Childhood Steering Committee (ECSC)

The Early Childhood Steering Committee is engaged in the coordination and promotion of early childhood activities and complementary services, to serve as a community voice in the formulation of early childhood goals and objectives and to identify such other services and activities as deemed necessary by the Members. A priority action for the ECSC over the last year has been the creation of the Santa Fe Early Learning Center at Agua Fria and the Santa Fe Early Learning Center at Kaune. Currently the ECSC is focused on creating a county wide shared data collection system through the work of the Healthy Babies and Kindergarten Readiness Data Teams, which include early childhood partners throughout Santa Fe.

The Building Green Bridges Collaborative Working Group (BGB)

Building on the success of the Academy for Sustainability Education (ASE), the Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) Board of Education unanimously voted to start the Early College Opportunities (ECO) Applied Science Magnet High School in the 2016-2017 school year. Working with ECO, the core mission of BGB is to use community connections, data-driven best practices, workforce readiness skills, and a wrap-around approach to maximize academic and career success for Santa Fe youth. While ECO will be the applied setting for BGB, the mission will also focus on developing, applying, interpreting, and reforming success metrics, training protocols, and the engagement of industry, government, nonprofit, and volunteer stakeholders to support and leverage the work of the applied science magnet school. ECO is representative of a recent trend in high school education that aims to better prepare students for college or a career straight out of high school, while giving them a head start on attaining certifications and/or a college degree.

CONNECT Collaborative Working Group (CWG)

CONNECT seeks to bring together agencies involved in youth tutoring and mentoring programs in Santa Fe to share resources, streamline efforts, create community awareness, and support the creation of a website with resources for volunteers interested in or involved in mentoring and tutoring. Connect goals are to increase efficiency of mentoring, tutoring and eventually intern efforts, enhance the quality of programs and relationships and expand access to programs. Priority actions include enhancing mentor/tutor orientation and training; advancing community engagement by expanding the current hub for mentoring, tutoring and internship opportunities; increasing the mentor/tutor pool through city-wide marketing; and enriching engagement for current and prospective mentor/tutor via shared education, enrichment and outreach opportunities.

Extended Learning for SFPS Collaborative Working Group (ELCWG)
Outcome Area: K-12 Success, Youth Resiliency
Outcome Area: K-12 Success, Youth Resiliency

ELCWG’s goals are to keep children safe and healthy during out of school time, to address academic achievement gaps through extended learning time, to prevent summer learning loss, to expose children to a variety of enrichment activities and experiences, and to instill in children a curiosity about the world and a love of learning. The ELCWG vision is that all students grades K-8 will have access to extended learning opportunities through after-school and summer programs, and for low income students these programs will be free. The collaborative working group seeks ways to support and coordinate existing after-school and summer programs, design new collaborative programs, pool existing funding and resources, and look for new funding and resources in order to expand and improve extended learning opportunities for SFPS students.

Santa Fe Advance CWG’s mission is to advance the development of educational and training workforce initiatives that support career transition and success, job creation, and economic development. The CWG’s priority actions will include analyzing current workforce and pipeline data as well as business skills needs, mapping existing programs and resources for workforce development and career pathways to define gaps and challenges, developing an implementation plan for workforce development and career pathways, developing communication strategies for multiple stakeholder engagement including businesses and educational institutions, and planning and implementing pilot skills training and campaign programs.
